You came into my life.
Planted flowers in my soul.
Seeds for every season.
Blooms to make me whole.
You gave me a different smile.
A daffodil-like beam.
A heavenly feeling.
Just like a daydream.
The flowers, they sway.
As they put on a show
Some may die back,
But brighter ones grow.
Wiebke stands tall. Too tall for the small-minded.
She was raised in the modest town of Eutin, Germany.
But that didn’t stop her from dreaming big.
Prejudice sent her in search of a safe space.
And she found it.
A basketball. A court. A safety net.
When she steps over the white line, she belongs.
When she steps back, the challenges remain.
So she made it her job to teach, inspiring change and inclusivity.
The fashion industry has struggled to open its eyes.
But on the horizon, a promise of change unfolds.
Walk a mile in Wiebke’s shoes.
A baller. A model. A creator.
An inspiration.
It’s hard to put into words what a woman represents.
Brave? Yes. Selfless? Of course. Defiant in the face of adversity? Absolutely.
Your strength and grace did not come because shit simply worked out for you.
It came because it didn’t.
You inspire generations despite discrimination and inequality.
You explore and you pioneer. Resilience unmatched. Spirit unequalled.
You’re expected to do it all, and you do, but to the beat of your own drum. No one else’s.
You’ve handled a thousand different challenges in a thousand different ways.
Some of those challenges were welcome. Some were not.
Still, you remain invincible, unbreached, and unphased.
Not because you did not have insecurity or failure. But because you continued despite these things.
Do not apologise.
Do not change.
Do not waver.
You’re perfect as you are.
Remember this the next time you doubt your own power.
Travel life’s road and let your dreams come true.
Remember to stand tall no matter what you do.
Take time to listen, and see others’ points of view,
You never know when their words might help you.
Be happy, be healthy, be kind and be strong.
Be humble when you’re right, and admit when you’re wrong.
Always do for others and let others do for you.
Believe in yourself as much as I do.
Try to learn from failure; it will help you succeed.
And if you’re finding it hard, just tell me what you need.
Be open with your feelings, but say your words with care.
For everything else in life, just know that I’ll be there.
Her dreams were crumbling, piece by piece.
It was all an illusion, love. This wasn’t what she wanted, in fact, she hated it, and she hated herself.
A lonely childhood filled with rejection and disdain had made her long for this day. But, now it had arrived, it wasn’t the unyielding passion she’d read about, or been told she was entitled to.
She was no longer herself; she was his.
As they rode into the distance, she tried to escape through the sound and vibration of the engine.
She slowly closed her eyes and let the wind take her tears.
The lights have gone down.
The dust has gently settled, and the day draws towards its quiet end.
Whether it was a day of love or frustration or excitement, of greatness or sadness, longing or lust.
Whatever you did or whatever you didn’t, for better or for worse.
The curtains will come up on a spectacular new show tomorrow.
It never would be a house; it would always be home.
Built with dedication and excitement.
Bound by love and trust.
Walls that were destined for happiness.
It would never be a garden; it would be nature’s work.
Flowerbeds clashing like a painter’s palette.
Sun-kissed like a beautiful olive grove.
Trees watching over and keeping us safe.
It would never be a family; it would be our family.
A family full of hopes and dreams.
Full of love today, and forever.
Our home, our life together.
Anna looked down at her hands that were resting in her lap, her right-hand laying in her left. He was all she had, but at this moment she felt helpless, she could do nothing to save him. He lay there on the hospital bed, barely recognisable such was his deterioration. A solitary tear slowly ran down her expressionless face, like a raindrop running down a sheet of contoured slate.
She stared out of the window into the grey and tired car park. It was all a blur. For several moments she wished he could take her with him, then this struggle would be over. He stirred, and at that moment, she flinched as if she’d been disturbed after a long, deep sleep. His face now faced hers, and one eye started to open, followed by the other. She stood up from her chair, walked to the bed and slowly sat down by his side, clasping his hand as if her life too, depended on it.
Their gazes locked for so long that Anna was struggling to focus. They were savouring this moment. His eyes were still the bluest of blues, she thought. She stared so profoundly that she could see an ocean with waves moving in the dappled shade created by the broken cloud.
